Introduction:

The Cumbria Farm Plastic Recycling Scheme is a partnership project which has been established through the hard work and commitment of several different organisations and individuals. This has involved the public, private and voluntary sector working together with farmers to meet the same aim.

In 2006 the management of CFPRS was taken over by Rural Futures, now The Cumbria Farmer Network.

Aim of the scheme

To provide a practical, sustainable solution to the problem of farm plastic disposal by developing pilot systems which will give farmers in Cumbria the opportunity to recycle their plastic waste.

This will include:

As part of CFN we are a not for profit company limited by guarantee, aiming to provide farmers with an affordable and practical recycling facility. We negotiate the best possible deals with recycling companies on behalf of the membership and, because the membership is high, we have been successful in keeping prices in Cumbria very low compared with other parts of England. This year we have negotiated a deal with Solway Recycling – see the “invitation to Join” page for further details.
